Gia R. Sands is a partner of the firm and has a reputation for being cooperative, knowledgeable and responsive. She specializes in corporate and commercial law and her expertise spans legal matters that involve real property, admiralty and maritime, immigration, and foreign and local investment. She has a reputation for being cooperative, knowledgeable and responsive. She works closely with her clients in the important tourism and leisure sectors in The Bahamas, while cultivating a close network of contacts with the future leaders of the government, business, and legal communities. Gia frequently represents clients on conveyancing transactions for the sale or purchase of homes ranging in value from hundreds of thousands of dollars to multimillion-dollar homes.
Gia attended the University of Toronto in Canada, where she received a Bachelor of Arts Degree. She then completed her Bachelor of Law Degree from the University of London in England. Gia proceeded to complete the Bar Vocational Course at BPP in London, and also completed a Masters of Law Degree at University College London. She was called to the English Bar in July 2011 and was admitted to The Bahamas’ Bar during the same year.
Gia derives equal satisfaction from solving complex conveyancing and business issues and the day-to-day practice of helping clients purchase homes and helping businesses establish themselves. She also frequently obtains approval on behalf of foreign investors/companies to facilitate conducting business in The Bahamas, including requisite government approvals, permits and licenses. Moreover, as an immigration attorney, she advises and represents private and commercial clients on all aspects of immigration law, including applications for work permits, annual residence, permanent residence, and citizenship.
Gia is affable yet professional and is known to be attentive and responsive to the needs of her clients. She is kind yet firm and operates with caution to ensure that her clients receive well considered and sound advice. Gia provides excellent and highly skilled service and commitment to all of her clients. She is ranked as a ‘Next Generation Partner’ for Real Estate by Legal 500 and has obtained an ‘Up and Coming’ rating for General Business Law from Chambers and Partners. She has also been elevated from ‘Notable Practitioner’ to ‘Rising Star Partner’ by IFLR 1000.
Gia is married to Michael Sands. They are the proud parents of their children Zaya Rae and Zane Sands. In her free time, Gia enjoys spending time with her family, cooking and reading a good book on the beach.
