John Fritzgerald Wilson is a commercial litigation attorney whose areas of expertise
include shipping and admiralty litigation, trust litigation, and fraud recovery involving the
tracing and recovery of stolen assets. In addition to his litigation work, Mr. Wilson advises
several of the larger Bahamian trust companies and is actively engaged in the firms work in
the private client area advising high net worth individuals on the use of various off shore
products.
Following his education at the University of Buckingham in England, he was admitted to
the Bar of England and Wales and the Bahamas Bar in 1994. He was also admitted to the
Honourable Society of Lincoln's Inn of the United Kingdom. Mr. Wilson was admitted to
partnership in the firm in 2001 and is currently a member of the Bahamas Bar Council.
Mr. Wilson is the contributing editor for the Bahamas chapter of the english version of the
International Real Estate Handbook published by John Wiley & Sons, a publication
directed to high net worth Europeans and their professional advisors. Mr Wilson regularly
writes articles and delivers speeches in his field. Some of his more recent presentations
include:
- Trustee Investment Powers Under the Bahamas Trustee Act;
- The Law of Tracing and its Effect on Commercial Institutions – delivered at the
third annual Commercial Law workshop of the University of the West Indies
- The International Trust Under Fire – the New Litigation Landscape – delivered as
a series of lectures in Nassau, Bahamas.
Among the matters on which Mr. Wilson has recently
worked are:
- A case out of Palm Beach Florida involving
one of the largest jewelry fraud scams in the
history of the United States of America. Litigation
was commenced in The Bahamas to trace and recover
approximately US$ 6,000,000. representing the
proceeds of the fraud deposited with a local trustee.
Virtually full recovery of all proceeds in The
Bahamas was realised. ….
- A case involving a fraudulent international
credit card scam where proceeds of the fraud were
deposited with various Bahamian entities. Judgment
was obtained in favour of the international bank
concerned.
- As general counsel to the Joint Liquidators
of Surety Bank & Trust
- Mr. Wilson is the contributing editor for the
Bahamas chapter of the english version of the
International Real Estate Handbook published by
John Wiley & Sons, a publication directed
to high net worth Europeans and their professional
advisors.
