Genell graduated from the College of The Bahamas in 1994, where she obtained an Associates of Arts Degree in History, and from the University of Leeds, UK in 1997, where she successfully completed her Bachelor of Laws Degree. She went on to complete the Bar Vocational Course at the College of Law, UK in 1998 before being admitted to the England and Wales Bar and the Bahamas Bar during the same year.

Genell is regarded as a leading specialist in the personal injury, fatal accident and insurance fields. She often handles claims involving motor vehicle accidents, slips and falls, industrial accidents, property damage and medical negligence. Genell’s ability as an attorney truly shines within negotiation and
litigation proceedings. She represents large national and international Insurers and Brokers and she also works zealously to secure substantial settlements for individual clients. During a landmark case for her career, Genell successfully represented a leading insurance company in its appeal to the Privy Council in the case of Insurance Company of the Bahamas Limited v. Eric Antonio, a case which had major implications for the insurance sector.

Genell continues to work on behalf of her clients on a large variety of complex cases. Genell advises and appears on behalf of liquidators and receivers, and has been involved in the liquidations of large international banks as well as companies in the Bahamas. She also represents and advises multi-national banks, and employees as well as employers in matters relating to employment law, mediation and litigation. Genell advises on terminations and dismissals and she has prepared and adapted employment contracts and employee handbooks to conform with Bahamian employment law.

Genell also regularly provides expert advice on Bahamian law to international law firms and for use in foreign proceedings and arbitrations involving ships and crew members.
